      Dear friends,

1/02/2005

The overwhelming support, sympathy and aid granted by France (among many other nations ) and it's citizens to all those who were victims of the TSUNAMI in Sri Lanka, has opened a new chapter and further strengthened ties between the two Countries.

Obviously, the tragedy which occurred on the 26th of December, overshadowed all events in the Year 2004.

It is however, important to recollect the activities relating to the FSLBC during the past Year.

Membership of Sri Lankan Companies :

A Committee decision was taken mid-last year in Lyon to encourage it's members in Sri Lanka to Join the SRI LANKA FRANCE BUSINESS COUNCIL , which was set up in the Year 2004.

This decision was taken for the following reasons :
      - to avoid duplication of activities and services
      - to avoid confusion
      - However, the membership of the Sri Lankan members of the FSLBC, will be valid till March 2005.

Visits by French Companies to Sri Lanka in 2004

Visits by 22 French Companies to Sri Lanka were coordinated by the FSLBC last year. Among them were, VINCI CONSTRUCTION, DEBOUCHET, SYMPEX, THION GROUP, GROUP SANTA MARIA, JUSTE, GANGLOFF SCOMA, SPIDERFINANCE, IAD FRANQUEMAGNE, SOC. LYONNAISE DE MOULES...................

Projects commenced

A blueprint for a proposed 25 bed roomed Hotel in Bentota has been completed and the Project is expected to be completed by end 2005. The Hotel will be managed by a well known Interior Designer from Paris, Ms.Marie Cassagne.

TSUNAMI Relief

The FSLBC responded to the Tragedy, with it's modest means.
      - a special RELIEF ACCOUNT was created with the French Red Cross in France and over 500 Companies were contacted, to source donations
      - for those French Companies / individuals, who wished to participate more directly, a special account was created in Sri lanka, to respond to urgent appeals from the COALITION FOR ASSISTING TSUNAMI AFFECTED WOMEN and The TRINCO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (with whom the FSLBC signed a MOU last year, for the Development SMI activity)
